Opening ceremony of the training course on “Action Research”

Kampong Cham Province: On Monday morning, September 28, 2026, at the Kampong Cham Teacher Education College, the Department of Policy organized the opening ceremony of the training course on “Action Research” presided over by His Excellency Dr. Dy Khamboly, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Policy and Planning, represented by His Excellency Dr. Ung Borat, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, with the participation of Mr. Anders LEE, Representative of UNESCO, Dr. Khut Sokha, Director of the Policy Department, Teacher trainers of the National Institute of Education, Representatives of the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, and Teachers, and Participants from the Pedagogical and Teacher Training Center and Practice Schools of Kampong Chhnang Province, Kratie Province, Preah Sihanouk Province, Kampot Province, Kampong Speu Province, Kampong Thom Province, Banteay Meanchey Province. and Pursat province, a total of approximately 95 people, 44 of whom were female. With the support of the Strengthening Teacher Education Program in Cambodia (GPE5/STEPCam II), this training course was held for 4 days, from September 28 to 30, 2026, in person at the Kampong Cham Provincial Pedagogical Institute, and October 2, 2026, online.

Action research is a small-scale study for individuals, groups, or organizations that want to delve deeper into the specific causes of problems that occur in the workplace with the aim of making positive changes based on research evidence. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop, His Excellency Dr. highlighted the importance of action research: (1) research is with us every day, as we make decisions on various tasks based on specific evidence and data; and (2) action research is very important for teachers to solve challenges in the classroom as well as in schools. As recommendations for further implementation, His Excellency Dr. highlighted two key points: (1) making action research a system in teacher training colleges, which can be included in the curriculum as a core or secondary subject; and (2) arranging for this training course to be recorded in the Ministry’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) system, which teachers, Earn credits for use in your teaching career.
